 Activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday beat up a student on the Dhaka University (DU) campus for his alleged involvement with the recently banned Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Witnesses said, activists of BCL Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall unit led by its president Jiban attacked Mainuddin leaving him seriously injured at the Mal Chattar at about 1:30 pm.
Mainuddin is the 11th batch student of Finance Department.
Sources said, Jiban and his followers forced Mainuddin to leave the spot.
Jiban said that they beat him up as he was carrying leaflets of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Mamunur Rashid Mamun, a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), however, claimed Mainuddin was involved with JCD politics.
He is a non-resident student attached to the Jasim Uddin Hall, Mamun added.
